Class 10 Student Arrested In Theft Case Cleared To Write Board Exams

Surat police allowed a 16-year-old boy who was arrested in a robbery case on Wednesday to attend his class 10 board exams.

According to the police, the minor along with his 17-year-old brother were arrested for allegedly stealing silver ornaments worth Rs. 4.57 lakhs from a jewelry showroom at Kadodara in Surat on March 13.

According to police, the two minors broke the emergency gate and the door of Monika’s jewelry showroom in Kadodara village early on March 13. The duo allegedly stole silver ornaments worth Rs. 4.57 lakh from the showroom and escaped.

Based on a complaint filed by the owner of the jewelery showroom, Abhishek Soni, the police launched an investigation and on 15 March captured the two teenagers from a house in the village of Vareli.

Under questioning, the two boys confessed to committing a robbery at the jewelry showroom and giving jewelry to their parents, police said.

A police team came to their homes and confiscated the stolen silver jewelry and arrested the parents for hiding the stolen jewelry.

surat District Police Superintendent Hitesh Joyser said: “The 16-year-old boy is a class 10 student and board exams are currently taking place. So we allow him to attend the board exams after getting permission from the juvenile justice board. The other 17-year-old was brought before the juvenile justice board and sent to the remand prison for children. Once the board exams are over, we will start further legal proceedings for the 16-year-old boy.”
