Class 4 hurricane Otis spreads over Mexico’s southern coast

ACAPULCO, Mexico, Oct 25 (Reuters) – Hurricane Otis reached Mexico’s southern coast on Wednesday, with damaging hurricane winds from the now Class 4 storm spreading inland over seaside resorts of Acapulco, the U.S. Nationwide Hurricane Heart (NHC) mentioned.

The hurricane, downgraded from Class 5 earlier within the day, reached land close to Acapulco and is transferring into Southern Mexico, bringing heavy rainfall and flash flooding with hurricane-force winds, the most recent NHC advisory mentioned.

The storm might deliver as much as 20 inches (51 cm) of rain in elements of Guerrero and Oaxaca states, with the potential of flash floods and mudslides, a “probably catastrophic” storm surge, and “life-threatening” surf and rip present situations, authorities mentioned.

Mexico’s nationwide water company CONAGUA warned of six-to-eight-meter surf off Guerrero – residence to Acapulco – and elements of Oaxaca.

Otis is about 25 miles North-Northwest of Acapulco and blowing most sustained winds of 130 mph (215 kph), the Miami-based NHC added.
