The death of an Assam police sub-inspector has taken a political turn with Congress seeking an investigation by a central agency, and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says the policewoman’s family will have that option. Sarma said a CID team will contact Junmoni Rabha’s family for details. “If they are still dissatisfied with the investigation, then we can turn the case over to the CBI; we have no objection,” she said.
Junmoni Rabha, a deputy inspector with the Assam police, was killed at around 2 am Tuesday when her vehicle collided with a truck in Nagaon district. Earlier that night, Rabha had been charged in a racketeering and dacoity case.
According to police, Rabha was alone in her private vehicle, dressed in civilian clothes and appeared to be driving towards Upper Assam.
His relatives, however, have raised questions. “She had been in Guwahati that morning and had left for Nagaon with our mother around 9:30 am… There was no reason for her to leave the house so late at night,” said her brother Karuna Rabha.
Assam DGP GP Singh had said on Tuesday: “…Following the request for a fair investigation…it has been decided to transfer the investigation to CID Assam.”
