Cobie Smulders Has Thoughts On The Ending Of The Secret Invasion Premiere

Although the first episode of Marvel’s secret invasion series just premiered on Wednesday, people can’t stop talking about its, um, final moments. maria hillwho has been played by Cobie Smulders since 2012 the Avengershas weighed what she think it happened. The news has already invaded most of the nerdernet, but in case you’re lucky enough not to know…

Maria Hill, Nick Fury’s right-hand woman, was shot in the stomach by a rogue Skrull posing as her friend and mentor. The question fans have been obsessed with ever since secret invasionThe inaugural episode of debuted is whether Hill realized she was a Skrull in disguise or whether she believed she had been betrayed. Smulders has her own answer.

speaking to vanity fair, Smulders chooses the happier of the two options. “Fury seeing himself, knowing that Hill thinks Fury shot him, that’s the pain of that moment,” Smulders told the publication. “I like to think that she, when she died, she knew that she wasn’t him. Initially, he is terrifying and very confusing. But I’d like to think he got there.

Personally, I agree with Smulders’ assessment, mainly because Maria Hill was a highly intelligent and capable person who knew she was literally at the time chasing shapeshifting aliens who wanted her dead, and thus was a much, much, much more likely culprit than the real Nick Fury. Maria Hill is no fool… er, they were not without dummy

This, of course, raises the question of whether Maria Hill is In fact dead, given that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse, where an infinite number of Maria Hills could theoretically be running. The character is rumored to star in the wonders, which will be released this November. Smulders says, “I don’t know about that,” as legally bound by the ominous vow of silence Marvel Studios forces its stars to take. It hardly matters, these are comic book movies, no one needs to stay dead if a future story calls for it, but there’s a much easier explanation. Maria Hill appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Homeonly to reveal himself to be Soren the Skrull in disguise, joined by Talos as Nick Fury, operating as agents of the former SHIELD director while on vacation in space.

Dead or not, Hill/Smulders had a great run. even if you don’t count Far from homeHe was in all four Avengers movies and appeared in Captain America: Civil War. Goodbye, Maria and Cobie. You will be missed. Maybe. Probably. Oh, who the hell knows, or rather, who the hell can tell?
