The search for a four-year-old boy at his now elderly mother’s Brisbane house has wound up after eight days, more than 50 years after he was last seen.

On Wednesday last week, Maureen Anne Enright, 76, was charged with the murder of Peter John Enright, who police say has not been seen since the 1960s.

Homicide detectives swooped on her home on Polaris St, Inala, to look for the child’s body, using special ground-penetrating radar equipment to search underneath the property and combing through her yard.

Police previously said they had obtained records of Peter’s birth and trawled adoption records but found no evidence of him being adopted. They also said he was never reported missing.

It is understood a family member approached police in August with information about the boy.
