Collision on Indus Highway claims 13 lives | The Express Tribune


SEHWAN:

At least 13 people, including two children, were killed and many others injured on Thursday after a passenger bus and truck collided on the Indus Highway near Sindh’s Manjhand area.

According to Jamshoro Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Javed Baloch, the bus was travelling to Karachi from Bahawalpur, while the truck was heading towards Sehwan from Jamshoro.

The SSP added that the accident took place on the Indus Highway near Manjhand at Torhi Phatak.

The deceased included a year-and-a-half-old Khadija and three women. The injured were identified as Muhammad Ashraf, Atiq-ur-Rahman, Muhammad Zafar, Javed Ahmed, Muhammad Hasnain, Noreen, Rashid Mahmood, Muhammad Tariq, Muhammad Waseem among others.

Earlier this year, 16 people were killed and two others were injured when another passenger van and a truck collided with each other on near Manjhand.

The people killed in the road mishap and the injured belonged to the Solangi and Kalhoro communities, who lived in the same area of Kandiaro town of Naushahro Feroze.

The van was transporting passengers from Naushahro Feroze to Karachi while the truck was heading towards Sehwan.

The head-on collision crushed the van’s front side. The residents and the police pulled out the bodies and the injured from the van. They bodies and the injured were initially shifted to a hospital in Manjhand.
