Consultant in Public Health Medicine with a special interest in Health Protection – Health Service Executive  

Ireland’s Public Health Service has embarked on a programme of strategic structural reform to implement an enhanced, consultant-delivered model of service delivery aligned to international best practice.  The new model will radically change the governance and operating structure within the Health Service Executive (HSE) Public Health function, establish strong clinical leadership across each of the domains of Public Health practice, and strategically align the service to contribute effectively to major service design, policy implementation, reduction in inequalities and improvements in health.  

Consultants in Public Health Medicine with a special interest in Health Protection (18 WTE) will be appointed across the six Public Health Area’s and will have responsibility for providing consultant delivered Health Protection services across all hazards by protecting and improving the health of the Irish population within the assigned geographic area. They will lead multidisciplinary teams and provide national clinical leadership to defined threat programmes for the integrated service, working across Infectious Diseases, Environment and Health and Emergency Preparedness and Response in each area. 

The appointed candidates will be employed as a Medical Consultant and must be registered as a Specialist with the Irish Medical Council in the Specialty of Public Health Medicine within 180 days of interview.
