Coronavirus cases one the rise both locally and nationally

A “summer spike” of cases of COVID is now hitting our area.

At Goshen Health, a small spike can be reported, but it is also believed some people are not getting tested.

As of March 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) no longer recommends that people stay home for five days after testing positive for COVID-19.

Instead, the CDC recommends that people with respiratory virus symptoms stay home until symptoms improve and there is no fever.

Dr. Dan Nafziger with Goshen Health believes some are confusing this virus with a common cold or allergies.

The reason for this specific uptick in cases is not yet known, but Dr.Nafziger say COVID-19 could be easily transmitted as the summer heat has brought us inside and using the air conditioning during the summer months.

“So some of it may be we we’ve seen big winter peaks, and then by this time of the year, everybody’s immunity is starting to wane and and the new variants are coming along. We are seeing upticks in the wastewater when it’s sampled in this area, we’re seeing increases in cases.” saidDr. Dan Nafziger.”
