India’s Covid-19 tally saw a record addition of nearly 10,000 cases on Tuesday to cross 2.6 lakh as hundreds more tested positive for the dreaded virus in several states and union territories. The Delhi government said the national capital itself may see 5.5 lakh cases by July-end at the current rate. The Union Health Ministry said central teams have been deployed in 15 states and UTs with districts or municipal bodies witnessing major spurt in cases to assist the local administrations in containment and management of the outbreak.

5 New Covid-19 Cases in Mizoram, Total Climbs to 93 | Five more persons have tested positive for Covid-19 in Mizoram, taking the state tally to 93, an official said today. All the five have recently returned from Maharashtra and Delhi. Two of them are from Saitual district and one each from Aizawl, Lawngtlai and Serchhip districts, he said. All the five patients are aged between 18-37, the official said.

Temasek-backed Tychan to Start Human Trials Next Week for Covid-19 Treatment | Singapore’s Tychan, a biotechnology firm backed by state investor Temasek Holdings, said it will begin human clinical trials next week for a potential monoclonal antibody treatment for Covid-19. The first phase of the trial to be conducted on 23 healthy volunteers will take about six weeks to evaluate the safety and tolerability of TY027 – a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. Antibodies are generated in the body to fight off infection. Monoclonal antibodies mimic natural antibodies and can be isolated and manufactured in large quantities to treat diseases in patients.

More 30,000 Covid-19 Cases Expected in Delhi in Coming Days: Satyendra Jain | “If one person gets infected, it takes around two weeks for him/her to cure and during this period they infect nearly 2-10 other people. Considering the present situation, it’s expected that in next 12-15 days, there will be around 30,000 more cases,” said Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain.

Indian Firm Panacea Says Aiming to Make Covid-19 Vaccine | Indian biotech firm Panacea Biotec Ltd said it would partner with US-based Refana Inc to make a potential vaccine for Covid-19. The collaboration aims to make more than 500 million doses of the vaccine candidate, with over 40 million doses expected to be available early next year, Panacea said in a statement to stock exchanges. Panacea’s shares jumped 20% in morning trading on India’s National Stock Exchange after the news.
Highest Covid-19 Deaths in Maharashtra | Out of the total 7,745 fatalities in the country, Maharashtra tops the tally with 3,289 deaths, followed by Gujarat with 1,313, Delhi with 905, Madhya Pradesh with 420, West Bengal with 415, Tamil Nadu with 307, Uttar Pradesh with 301, Rajasthan with 255 and Telangana with 148 deaths.
