PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) –
Covid cases are on the rise again nationwide and in our county. Officials from Cary Medical and AR Gould told us what they are seeing in their hospitals and what measures folks at home can take to prevent getting sick.
Mary Allen, an Infection Preventionist at Cary Medical said, “Pretty much mimicking across the nation there’s been a rise and increase this past summer mimicking what we saw over the winter.”
Julie Tutt, Infection Preventionist Nurse, Northern Light AR Gould said, “In recent weeks we’ve had a couple of patients maybe that have tested positive for covid. Definitely have seen an increase in staff so it varies. I could have anywhere from 10 to 15 staff out per week for the past couple of weeks. Typically though for the past year or so number have not been that high.Stay home when your sick test for covid at home and follow those manufacturer instructions. Do that second test 48 hours after the first. A lot of times people testing positive on that second test 48 hours later after that first test when their systems start.”
Tutt also says folks should be more mindful of germs right now by washing their hands often and using sanitizer. Next week we’ll have the measures hospitals are taking to prevent the illness from spreading within the facilities.
