The Australian Defence Force assisting with the COVID-19 outbreak across Sydney will have increased capabilities for the next six weeks.
This will include assisting NSW Police to ensure there is maximum compliance, helping contact tracers, delivering care packages to people in isolation among other tasks.
They will operate alongside the police force and will work across NSW but be based in Greater Sydney.
“There is no need for anybody to carry on as if this is some sort of move away from the government’s response to COVID-19,” NSW Police Minister David Elliott said.
“We are very lucky that we have 300 Australian Defence Force personnel who are in Sydney and that are able to assist us.”
