Covid-19 vaccine effectiveness studies planned for primary care and acute hospital settings
Covid-19 vaccine effectiveness studies are planned both in primary care and in the acute hospital setting, Irish Medical Times reports.
In response to a query from IMT on how the impact and effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccination programme is to be measured, a statement from the Health Service Executive (HSE) said discussions were taking place between the HSE and partner groups to enable studies to get “up and running pending agreement”.
Both direct and indirect impact are to be monitored using routinely collected data on Covid-19 laboratory confirmatory tests and notification data, hospitalisations of cases, severity of their outcome (intensive care admissions) and deaths.
The Executive added that they would expect to see a decrease and a positive impact in comparison to the pre-vaccination period.
This is to be monitored closely over time and reported on.
