COVIDSafe app identifies under 800 cases

Image Matrix Tech Editor Djuro Sen says the government’s COVIDSafe app has not had “a good run” after a federal government report revealed it had identified less than 800 cases.

“This report pretty much says what we all thought,” he told Sky News Australia.

“We started out early - over 7 million downloads - and then less than 800 people who had the app, who had COVID actually reported it.

“And the thousands of thousands of people who had the disease, or the virus, hardly anyone had the app.

“So it has not been a good run.

“I was critical of the app ... I think we went really fast, early with the app without really thinking it through.”

However Mr Sen said he believes the app should be looked at again and harnessed to help tackle the Delta variant.
