‘Crazy loud’: terror as Malaysian roller coaster fails mid-ride, injuring 10

A roller coaster malfunction at a major theme park on the outskirts of Malaysia’s capital city injured 10 people on Saturday, the operator confirmed after coming under fire for what critics called a prolonged silence over the incident.

Authorities said on Monday that the riders had suffered minor injuries after the ride abruptly stopped, leaving them stranded.

The incident sparked a flurry of complaints across Malaysian social media, with numerous posts sharing videos purportedly showing the malfunction and demanding accountability from the park’s operator.

Sunway Lagoon, which operates the theme park in Subang Jaya where the malfunction occurred, confirmed on Tuesday “the incident involving an attraction” and said its immediate priority was the welfare of those affected.

“We are working closely and fully cooperating with all relevant authorities as they conduct a thorough investigation into the incident,” the company said in a statement.
