Crews battle deadly fire in Braddock, Allegheny County

Allegheny County police said they were called to a fatal fire in Braddock on Friday night.Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at a duplex on Elm Way. An Eastern Regional Mon Valley police officer said the two-story home was engulfed when first responders arrived at about 7 p.m.The officer said emergency responders were searching for a man who was seen exiting his apartment and then going back inside.According to the officer, firefighters performed a primary and secondary search of the structure but did not find anyone. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 saw firefighters re-enter the building for another search. A short time later, the scene was secured with yellow police tape. The county fire marshal was also at the scene. The building is located on a narrow alley near 2nd Street and Holland Avenue.“There was some fire coming out of the, I believe, the delta side,” said Public Information Officer Pat Green with Rivers Edge Volunteer Fire Department, as he motioned to the side of the duplex closest to 2nd Street.According to Green, two families lived in the duplex.
