Czech Republic: attack on public media

This is more than just an attack on the broadcasters, Hospodářské noviny explains:

“From a broader perspective, we are witnessing an attack on the institutions of liberal democracy. The government is already attacking independent courts, including the Constitutional Court, as well as civil society and human rights organisations. In fact it’s attacking everything it can’t control. … Democracy itself is not under immediate threat. But the government is systematically undermining the conditions under which it can function. … If the government gains control over the media – and that is precisely the aim of the attempts to control ČT and ČRo – elections will no longer be completely fair.”
