Skeptics continued to infect social media with unsubstantiated claims that Hamlin was brought down by the COVID-19 vaccine. Some responses to his diagnosis were downright silly.
Hamlin made the revelation during his announcement that he would try to return to the NFL after being authorized to play. At least one Twitter user suggested that Hamlin was being paid by “Big Pharma” to avoid telling the truth. Another claimed that the man at the press conference it was not hamlin. A skeptic asked about the player’s vaccination history. Another defendant Hamlin to lie and pronounce the “company line.”
“So the diagnosis of what happened to me was basically commotio cordis,” Hamlin explained. “It’s a direct hit to a specific point on your heartbeat that causes cardiac arrest and 5 to 7 seconds later you fall down.”
The American Heart Association called shock of the heart “a rare cause of cardiac arrest which begins with a blow to the chest in the right place at the wrong time in the heartbeat. When it happens, CPR and an AED are the only ways to save someone’s life.”
Hamlin collapsed during a “Monday Night Football” game on Jan. 2 after he tackled the Cincinnati Bengals’ Tee Higgins. His heart rate was restored by personnel in the field before he was transported to the hospital.
Hamlin said Tuesday that commotio cortis was a leading cause of death among young athletes and that he was “personally taking a step to make a change.”
