Top Mumbai police sources told CNN-News18 that Solanki wrote “Armaan has killed me” on the note.
Even when the special investigation team (SIT) set up by the police to investigate the death of Darshan Solanki, a student at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, found a ‘suicide note’ on the last page of a questionnaire recovered from the youth’s hostel room, an FIR has yet to be registered in the case.
Top Mumbai police sources told CNN-News18 that Solanki wrote “Armaan has killed me” on the note.
In fact, it was a blank page, and on the back was the handwritten note in plain handwriting, they said.
It was recovered during the SIT panchnama from room 802 in the IIT hostel, from where Solanki allegedly took his own life.
The note was found in the first week of March, when the team searched his room and the police team called his family on March 11 to inform them of the events.
His family visited Mumbai with Solanki’s old notes and books, which were handed over to the police.
“The note has been sent for handwriting analysis. Her mother has confirmed that it is Darshan’s handwriting. We are waiting for the expert’s reports to continue investigating this case. The family has sought time to register a new FIR in this case, so we are waiting,” an SIT official said.
The team also informed the IIT authorities about the mention of Arman Khatri’s name in the note.
The SIT discovered that there was a dispute between Arman and Darshan during the week before the death.
As part of the investigation, Solanki’s room was searched for nearly 10 hours, at which time the note was found, the sources said.
This development has raised several questions about the earlier investigation by the Mumbai Police team from the Powai Police Station when the note was not found.
Doubts are also being raised about the report submitted by a team of IIT professors to the central government, which stated that there was no reason for Solanki to take his own life.
