The Delhi Capitals opener said there is a sense of freedom and clarity in the batting group after his match-winning 87-run strike against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Speaking after the game, Salt said: “There’s a sense of freedom and clarity in the hitting group that some great players have started to play.” The Capitals chased a mammoth 182 runs total in just 16.4 overs.
“If I go out and put pressure on the bowlers again and we get off to a good start, it will be easier to be the next batsman, which means our batting unit is likely to win us a game of cricket. Obviously you have to live with the ups and downs hitting half volleys to cover those are the things you have to take on the chin sometimes,” he added.
When asked about his shot, the 26-year-old said: “I am very pleased with the shot. Obviously, there was a bit of a needle. The boys were ready for the last game when we were in bangalore. So a lot of the pre-game talk was to drive it to them. There were some words and a bit of a needle, most of the guys were up for it, especially me.”
Aggressive opening said attacking RCB ace Mohamed Siraj sends a message of calm to the locker room as he is their best bowler.
He further stated, “When he goes out successfully, you see guys like Mitch come off his second ball for six and you see Rilee come in like he’s faced 30 balls.”
The capitalists have already won four of their five games after losing the first five. “After a few games, it was a conscious review of what we could improve with the hitting group hitting the leadoff was a major talking point,” Salt said.
The Englishmen applauded the team’s bowling effort, saying, “Our bowlers have seen themselves in difficult situations, such as the last Gujarat game, they have come out very well.”
Speaking about playing in IPL, he said: “It is the first time that many people have seen me bat. Many Indian fans are probably seeing me for the first time if they don’t watch other competitions. Since the auction, my goal has been to come here and win games and challenge myself against the best in the world. We know that this is the best national league in the world”.
