Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Wednesday he doesnâ€™t support invoking the Insurrection Act, an 1807 law that would allow President Donald Trump to send U.S. armed forces into states for the purpose of domestic law enforcement.
â€œI do not support invoking the Insurrection Act,â€ Esper said at a news conference at the Pentagon. â€œThe option to use active-duty forces in a law enforcement role should only be used as a matter of last resort and only in the most … dire of situations. We are not in one of those situations now.â€
