Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan shares a special bond with the village of Shoron in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar: a khap panchayat was held on Thursday to discuss the ongoing wrestlers’ protest. The village is famous for its ‘sarv khap panchayat’ building where khap meetings used to take place. Old and dilapidated, the structure caught the attention of the minister and secured funding for its renovation. With renovation work underway, Thursday’s khap meeting was held at a girls’ college in the village.

After chairing the Central Department of Public Works during its most high-profile project in recent history, the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28, CPWD Director General Shailendra Sharma retired on May 31, then 38 years in the department. Meanwhile, the government has appointed CPWD Special Director General (Architecture), Rajesh Kumar Kaushal, as Director General for an additional three months, or until the position is filled on a regular basis. On Thursday, CPWD fired the outgoing CEO and congratulated the new boss. In addition to the new Parliament Building, CPWD is currently constructing three new Common Buildings for the Central Secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Vice President’s Enclave as part of the Central Vista redevelopment.
