Des Moines International Airport runway reopened after an emergency landing

The Des Moines International Airport runway has temporarily reopened after a closure due to an emergency landing. The airport posted on Facebook shortly before 11 a.m. that crews were working as quickly as possible to reopen the runway. Just before noon, the airport announced the runway was reopened and operations returned to normal. According to airport staff, an “Alert 3” was issued for a Mooney plane with two people on board at 9:50 a.m. The pilot landed on the belly of the plane, disabling the plane. Both people on the plane walked away safely.

Just before noon, the airport announced that the runway was reopened and operations were back to normal.

According to airport personnel, at 9:50 am an “Alert 3” was issued for a Mooney aircraft with two people on board.

The pilot landed on the belly of the aircraft, disabling the plane.

Both people on the plane walked away safely.
