Diablo IV devs say future update will fix pesky gems

If you’ve been murdering your way through dungeons in Diablo IV Recently, you’ve likely killed a lot of monsters, found a lot of loot, and also ended up with half a dozen (or more) gems in your inventory taking up space that weapons and armor could take up. That can be annoying, and some players have asked for a bag of gems. While that’s not happening, Blizzard understands the frustration and confirmed that a change is coming in the future.

Released earlier this monthdevil IV is the latest action RPG in Blizzard’s long running demon looting franchise. While I wish the game had an additional skill slot and the players have complained some problems with XPoverall, the game’s launch has been much smoother than most big games in 2023, as well as Devil 3Historically bad pitch. But even a great game can be improved, and Blizzard acknowledged today that gems are causing too much “inventory stress” in the current state of the game.

Snow storm

In the first of Blizzard Diablo IV campfire talk--a series of videos where the developers will talk about upcoming updates and answer questions from the community—game director Joe Shely confirmed that the team is aware of the gem issue and has a solution on the way. But it’s not just a simple bag of gems or a tab of gems.

“The idea is to change the way you acquire gems so that they appear in your materials or currency tab, instead of your inventory,” Shely explained. “And then the way it’s going to work is you’re going to craft your gem the same way you do today, and you only use a certain amount of that material, similar to the number of equivalent real gem inventory slots you’re using. now, but as materials.”

When will Blizzard change how gems work? Diablo IV?

What this should mean is that your inventory won’t fill up with unused gems after every dungeon, as they will live alongside your other crafting materials. (Which is really how this should have worked in the first place…)

But don’t expect this change to happen too soon, as Shely made it clear that this is something that won’t be added to the game until “around season two.” With seasons in Diablo IV with a duration of approximately three months and the first from sometime in july, this gem change probably won’t happen until October or even early November. Still, it’s nice to hear that something is being done.

During the live stream, it was also confirmed that crafting resource limits are being raised, which should help people hoard more gems when the change to how they’re stored goes live in a few months. In the meantime, I’ll keep throwing them into my hiding place.
