The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority will ease some of the tight restrictions imposed on dividends paid by the financial sector when the regulator updates its guidance on capital management next week.
In a signal to the markets that the COVID-19 crisis has eased since April, when APRA told banks and insurers they should seriously consider deferring dividends, chairman Wayne Byres said on Wednesday that the level of uncertainty in the domestic economy remained high but had fallen overall.
