DOH confirms travel-related Dengue case in Maui; Vector Control teams responding

HANA (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Department of Health has confirmed a travel-related case of the dengue virus in Hana, Maui.

Officials say vector control teams are responding after highly dense populations of mosquitoes were found around the home and surrounding area.

Hana also sees a high volume of tourists, officials say.

The public is being urged to protect themselves from mosquito bites by using repellent on exposed skin, especially if outdoors.

They also suggest wearing loose-fitting clothes that cover your skin, keeping your doors closed, and eliminating any standing water in and around your home or business.

Symptoms of dengue include fever, nausea, vomiting, rash, and body aches.
