Donald Trump wishes Ghislaine Maxwell well

Maxwell, who is accused of helping Epstein procure and sexually abuse underage girls, is in jail in New York. She has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges.

Mr Trump was asked whether he would comment on reports Maxwell could reveal the names of famous men linked to the sex scandal in return for a deal from US authorities.

“Ghislaine Maxwell is in prison, and a lot of people want to know if she’s going to turn in powerful people. I know you’ve talked in the past about Prince Andrew, and you’ve criticised Bill Clinton’s behaviour. I’m wondering, do you feel that she’s going to turn in powerful men? How do you see that working out?” the President was asked.

“I don’t know, I haven’t really been following it too much. I just wish her well, frankly,” Mr Trump replied.

“I have met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach. And I guess they (Maxwell and Epstein) lived in Palm Beach. But I wish her well, whatever it is.

“I don’t know the situation with Prince Andrew. I’m just not aware of it.”

British socialite Maxwell was denied bail last week after pleading not guilty to charges she recruited girls and women for financier Epstein to sexually abuse more than two decades ago.

An indictment alleged that she helped groom the victims to endure sexual abuse and was sometimes there when Epstein abused them. It also alleged that she lied during a 2016 deposition in a civil case stemming from Epstein’s abuse of girls and women.

Epstein killed himself in August 2019, several weeks after he was confronted by two accusers at a bail hearing who insisted that he should remain in jail while awaiting sex trafficking charges that alleged he abused girls at his Manhattan and Florida mansions in the early 2000s.
