Don’t make ‘a joke on us’: Pakistan court warns Imran Khan is ‘absent’

The provisional bail may be cancelled, a Pakistani court has warned former Prime Minister Imran Khan expressing dissatisfaction over the absence of the head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) from court hearings in several cases, the Dawn newspaper reported. While listening to Imran Khan’s provisional bail plea in a case involving attempted murder charges brought by Pakistan Muslim League MP Nawaz Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, the Islamabad High Court said the former prime minister made a ” joke out of court” and asked him to appear in court.

“If the petitioner, Imran Khan, does not appear during court times (today), the provisional bail will be dismissed. The judge added that the former prime minister has made a joke out of court,” said the court cited in The report.

Responding to the court, senator from Imran Khan’s party, Shibli Faraz, said in a tweet that the former prime minister “respected the courts” but was absent due to his injured leg.

“Imran Khan’s leg was injured again yesterday at the Lahore High Court due to shoving caused by the lack of security provided by the government. The doctors have advised him (Imran) to rest for 10 days. cases filed for political reasons. (Imran) Khan sahib respects the courts,” said Shibli Faraz.

This comes as more than 100 cases have been registered against Imran Khan since he was removed from office through a vote of no confidence in April last year.
