The aftermath of the “significant” VAR error during Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham Now a “conspiracy” has been revealed and claims about referee Darren England and the Reds have been debunked.
Five days after the events in north London, the fallout continues after an unprecedented incident denied Liverpool a legitimate goal.
There have been several repercussions and subsequent changes proposed to ensure this does not happen again, with the PGMOL issuing a statement relating to VAR.
However, on Wednesday afternoon The Telegraph reported that England, leading VAR during the incident, would be removed from ALL Liverpool matches for the remainder of the season.
It would be an important advance, but it is one sky sports have now refuted, saying they “understand that PGMOL has not yet made any decision to stop England refereeing matches involving Liverpool for the remainder of the current season.”
He Telegraph report It was a standalone thing and while his unavailability for the Reds would ensure there were no further incidents between the two sides, it would be a great statement from refereeing boss Howard Webb.
However, this will no doubt continue to rumble, but one would hope that England will not be selected to oversee Klopp’s team any time soon with the fire still burning.
A never-before-seen incident like this has sparked a huge reaction across the football world and beyond, including former first division Goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Foster, who runs his own YouTube channel and podcast, said: “Sky is in bed with the VAR and (PGMOL) people.”
“Because they should have spoken directly on the phone and said, ‘don’t point out the fact that we’ve made a mistake here, don’t show it, don’t speak ill of us,'” Foster said.
“I guarantee you that’s what happened. That’s why Sky had direct orders not to say a single word about it.”
He Independent They have now reported that “a source within the PGMOL dismissed Foster’s allegations as ‘baseless and simply false’”, and the referees’ governing body has no say in what the television companies show.
Sky glossed over the incident for the first half and actually missed the second half kick-off as they began to discuss what may have happened, although they “did not wish to comment on Foster’s claims”.
This incident still has many consequences and we certainly haven’t heard the end of it!
