Dozens of firefighters tackle blaze as services through UK station ‘affected’

A fire in London erupted in Mitcham on Wednesday afternoon, with thick smoke seen from miles. The horror grass fire erupted on Wednesday afternoon, prompting concerns among people in the area who spotted a thick black plume of smoke rising near Carshalton Road.

Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade have been called to the scene shortly before 4.30pm, with locals urged to keep their doors and windows closed to fend off the thick smoke. The fire team said train services through Mitcham Junction are “affected by the fire”, and urged commuters to check their journey before travelling.
