KARACHI:

Private schools in Sindh have been banned from selling drinks in glass bottles on campus, according to a notification from the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions (DIRPIS) of the Sindh Department of Education.

“A sad incident occurred a few days ago when a fifth grade student, Huzaifa, who was studying at a private school, died from neck injuries after a soda bottle exploded at a stall inside the school,” said Rafia Mallah, additional director of DIRPIS.

The department also canceled the school’s registration and fined the administration for the negligence that led to the accident.

Private school principals and administrators are ordered to prevent the sale of beverages in any type of glass bottle on school property, according to the notice.

Similarly, schools are not allowed to keep or sell soft drinks in glass bottles, but are allowed to sell them in plastic bottles or cans.

The notification said that child safety measures against injury had been taken so that such distressing incidents would not happen again.
