ECB’s Vice President Luis de Guindos tests positive for coronavirus

FRANKFURT — European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday and is now self-isolating, the bank said in a statement Sunday.

According to the statement, de Guindos had been vaccinated twice, and his symptoms are mild. De Guindos has not been in close contact with ECB President Christine Lagarde over the past week, the bank added.

“There will be no impact on this week’s monetary policy meeting by the ECB,” the statement said.

The ECB’s Governing Council is set to meet Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a policy announcement and press conference Thursday. The meeting was planned to be held in a virtual format ahead of the news.
