Eleven Madison Park Gets Into the Meal Kit Game

Last year the chef Daniel Humm converted Eleven Madison Park, his much-lauded palace of haute cuisine, into a palace of haute, plant-based cuisine. Now he is offering training wheels for vegan dining: Eleven Madison Home, a weekly subscription box to the tune of $150 ($285 for two) that includes a day’s worth of meals, with breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and snacks, most of it ready-to-serve. (Weekly delivery is only available for Manhattan addresses so far.)

“Try it for a day,” he suggested, adding that if everyone ate plant-based once-per-week, it would “be huge.” Mr. Humm’s approach is environmental and “pro-planet,” with enjoying the food a paramount consideration and wellness only secondary. “Plant-based should not be something to dread,” he said.

The components are prepared in his company’s Long Island City kitchen where Danny DiStefano is the executive chef and a partner. The meals may also include items produced by other companies, like the tomato-based matbucha condiment from New York Shuk and tortillas from Sobre Masa in Brooklyn. There are add-ons too, like a whole roasted curry cauliflower ($75) or a taco kit for four, in collaboration with Sobre Masa, with vegetable kebabs ($75). A donation to the nonprofit Rethink Food is made with each purchase.
