Police booked former Tamil Nadu Prime Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and five other people on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a man at Madurai airport.
Police identified the man as Rajeshwaran, 42, a VK Sasikala supporter, who was ousted from the party by Palaniswami months after the death of former CM and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa in 2016. Sasikala’s nephew and EPS rival , TTV Dhinakaran, later launched AMMK.
Police said the incident happened on Saturday when EPS was on its way to attend a party meeting in the Sivaganga district. They said that after the flight landed, Rajeshwaran, an AMMK worker, was on the same bus that took EPS to the runway.
“Rajeshwaran started yelling at EPS while simultaneously recording a Facebook Live, calling him a traitor from Sasikala. Shortly after, his cell phone was kidnapped by EPS security, ”said a police officer.
The official said that Rajeshwaran was again roughed up outside the terminal by AIADMK supporters. He said that Rajeshwaran was arrested and later filed a complaint at the Avaniyapuram police station.
