EU Condemns Hong Kong Subversion Convictions

The European Union on Thursday condemned the convictions of 14 Hong Kong democracy campaigners on subversion charges in what it called a “politically motivated” case.

“The conviction… marks a further deterioration of fundamental freedoms and democratic participation in Hong Kong,” said EU foreign affairs spokeswoman, Nabila Massrali. “The EU is deeply concerned about the politically motivated prosecution,” she said, adding that the EU would “closely monitor” the human rights situation in Hong Kong.
