msnbc broadcast newly obtained images Wednesday night showing donald trump longtime Republican ally and operative roger stone dictating what sounds very much like the core of the plot to nullify the 2020 presidential election.
In the video, Stone dictates a message saying that “any legislative body” can send its own constituents to the Electoral College “on the basis of overwhelming evidence of fraud.”
No such evidence has ever been produced, and Trump and his allies have lost in court every time, even in cases before judges Trump himself had appointed.
But Stone asserted that state legislatures could overturn those results anyway to “accurately reflect the president’s legitimate victory in his state, which was unlawfully denied him through fraud.”
He also said that Trump allies should lobby through “personal contact” with lawmakers, which is what happened, in many cases with Trump himself calling and pressuring people to overturn the election results.
msnbc Ari Melber notes that it is unclear what Stone did next or if this message was actually given to Trump and used by his team. If it were, the images could show how early in the process the plan was hatched, as it was recorded on November 5, 2020, two days after Election Day and two days before the results were due. called for democrat Joe Biden on November 7.
“It sure is bad, it sure is incriminating, for people trying to say that all they want to do is get to the actual results or act on a bona fide belief,” Melber said. “You were trying to steal and overthrow an election you hadn’t officially lost yet.”
The video was given to the network by Danish filmmaker Christoffer Guldbrandsen, who made a documentary about Stone and the 2020 election called “A Storm Foretold.”
The plot is now at the center of a federal indictment against Trump in Washington, DC, as well as a state extortion case against the former president and his allies in Georgia.
Lawyer and former federal prosecutor John Flannery told Melber the images could be “powerful” to prosecutors, who could use them to show “knowledge and intent” behind the plot to overturn the 2020 election.

Guldbrandsen he told The Daily Beast earlier this year that Stone sometimes seemed to forget that he was using a microphone and in one instance became “very, very anxious” about subsequent recordings.
In previously released clips, Stone is heard calling Ivanka Trump, the former president’s daughter, a “abortionist bitch” and warning that Donald Trump would get his “fucking brains banging” if I were to run again.
He has not commented on the new images, but has suggested in the past that the clips could be “fake deepvideos.
