Eyes on Frazer’s gutsy mare to turn hobby into handy profit at Moree

Glenn Frazer only has a handful of horses to his name but that suits the Coonabarabran-based hobby trainer just fine. Particularly when one of those horses puts everything she has into her races every time she runs.

Nicola, a six-year-old mare, lines up at Moree on Sunday on the back of a typically gusty fifth at Tamworth last start. “She is well in herself at the moment and we haven’t done a lot with her since Tamworth, where she ran really well,” said Frazer.

“They only swamped her the last little bit and she was taken on from the 600. The horse of Rod Northam’s [Tango Stepz] has got solid form but she’s fit and well. She never runs a bad race, she doesn’t know how to.”

The daughter of Charge Forward, originally trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, drops back from 1200m to 950m but that’s the least of Frazer’s concerns.

“That shouldn’t worry her one bit, when my horses come back home they spend a couple of days in the paddock. She has been ridden once since Tamworth,” he said.

“She doesn’t have to lead either, she has won from sitting in behind and although she shared the lead over 800m first up, she was off the bridle the entire way.

“She is a really good doer at home, she is a dream. She is like a pet; she is very easy to have around the place.”

Frazer, who manages a cattle property by day, juggles his commitments to maintain a small string of horses.
