Factbox: Alberta wildfire shuts down at least 2% of Canadian power production

May 8 (Reuters) – Canada’s top oil-producing province, Alberta, declared on Saturday state of emergency due to wildfires, shutting down at least 185,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), or about 2% of the country’s production.

Canadian natural gas exports to the United States fell to 6.7 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) on Sunday, the lowest level since April 2021, according to data provider Refinitiv.

Most of Sunday’s reductions were on pipelines from Canada to the US Midwest, including Enbridge Inc. (ENB.TO)Pembina Pipeline Corp. (PPL.TO) Alliance Pipeline, TC Energy Corp’s (TRP.TO) Great Lakes pipeline, Northern Border pipeline and its Northwest gas transmission pipeline.

The following are the energy companies whose operations have been affected due to the wildfires.

Paramount Resources Ltd (POU.TO)

Paramount said its operations in the Grande Prairie and Kaybob regions were affected by the wildfires.

He added that around 50,000 boepd of production has been temporarily reduced since the afternoon of May 5.

Crescent Point Power Corporation (CPG.TO)

Crescent Point said around 45,000 boepd of production has occurred in the Kaybob Duvernay region. temporarily close with a plan to restart production once it is safe and allowed to do so.

The company added that no damage to its assets has been reported.

NuVista Energy Ltd. (NVA.TO)

The company said it has temporarily closed and reduced pressure on all operations in close proximity to the ongoing fires in the Grande Prairie region. The temporary impact on production is about 40,000 boepd.

vermillion energy inc (VET.TO)

Vermilion Energy said there was temporarily closed around 30,000 boepd of production and was assessing the risk to its operations.

“Our assessment to date indicates minimal damage to our key infrastructure,” he said.

Pipestone Energy Corporation (TUBE. TO)

Pipestone said its operations in the Grande Prairie area are being affected by the ongoing wildfires and around 20,000 boepd of production have been lost. temporarily restricted since the night of May 5.

The company said it is not aware of any significant damage or loss to its own or third-party infrastructure.

Kiwetinohk Energy Corp (KEC.TO)

Kiwetinohk said it had safely shut down most of its Placid operations in response to downstream third-party outages near the Alberta wildfires.

tourmaline oil corporation (TOU.TO)

The company said it has evacuated and closed nine South and West Deep Basin gas processing facilities. Tourmaline said it was not aware of any damage at those facilities to date, and that access to the sites is currently prohibited.

Cenovus Energy Inc (CVE.TO)

Cenovus said it has shut down production and knocked down plants in some areas of its conventional business.

Resources Whitecap Inc. (WCP.TO)

The company said there was no significant damage to infrastructure at Whitecap, however production has been affected by outages from downstream third parties and proactive enclose of production in the vicinity of forest fires.
