Socialist Zohran Mamdani delivered a fiery speech as he cruised to victory in the New York City mayor’s race – delivering a blistering attack on his political opponents.
The furious speech was slammed by CNN‘s Van Jones as a ‘missed opportunity’ for Mamdani to re-introduce himself on the national stage, and doubted whether Democrats could back his radical approach.
‘I think the Mamdani that we saw in the campaign trail, who was a lot more calm, who was a lot warmer, who was a lot more embracing, was not present in that speech,’ Jones said.
‘There are a lot of people trying to figure out, can I get on this train with him or not? Is he going to include me?’
It came as Mamdani’s defeated opponents, Republican Curtis Sliwa and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, delivered solemn concession speeches.
Mamdani romped to victory with 50.4 percent to Cuomo’s 41.6 percent, while Sliwa fell to just 7.1 percent support despite previously polling close to Cuomo during the campaign.
In his concession, Sliwa blamed Cuomo’s wealthy backers for sidelining his campaign, declaring in a fiery speech: ‘The Masters of the Universe, the billionaires, decided that I should not have the right to represent all of you.’
Sliwa also noted that the vote turnout exceeded two million people – marking the highest electorate turnout since 1969 in the Big Apple – which he applauded as ‘men have died in battle so we could have this right.’
Mamdani’s victory capped a clean sweep for Democrats in the few big races of this off-year election, as Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia easily won governor’s races. Governor Gavin Newsom’s Prop 50 campaign that will redraw California’s congressional map and likely hand the Democrats five extra House of Representative seats also passed.
Socialist Zohran Mamdani takes aim at Trump in his fiery victory speech
Socialist Zohran Mamdani slammed Donald Trump in his victory speech on Tuesday night, addressing the president directly in front of cheering supporters.
‘Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up!’ he said.
‘If any city can show a nation how to stop Donald Trump, it is the city that gave rise to him,’ said Mamdani, who represents a district in the same borough of Queens where the president was raised.
‘So, if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is by dismantling the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power. This is not only how we stop Trump, it’s how we stop the next one.’
Mamdani alternated between attacking his political enemies and declaring a ‘new dawn’ for New York City.
He continued: ‘Here we believe in standing up for those we love, whether you are an immigrant, a member of the trans community, one of the many Black women that Donald Trump has fired from a federal job, a single mom still waiting for the cost of groceries to go down, or anyone else with their back against the wall.’
Newsom urges other states to follow his redistricting measures: ‘We could de facto end Donald Trump’s presidency’
California Governor Gavin Newsom urged Blue states across the nation to follow his lead and redraw their congressional maps to counter Donald Trump’s efforts.
Newsom said the plan could ‘de facto end Donald Trump’s presidency’ by the 2026 midterms, preventing the White House from instating many of its policies if Democrats retake the House.
‘It is all on the line,’ he said.
As Democrats won elections across the nation on Tuesday night, Newsom celebrated the passage of his Prop 50 campaign, which will redraw California’s congressional map and likely hand the Democrats five extra seats in congress.
‘We need to see other states, with their remarkable leaders that have been doing remarkable things, meet this moment head-on as well,’ he said.
Mamdani admits ‘expectations will be high’ when he takes power
Zohran Mamdani has faced accusations that his slate of far-left policies will be near-impossible to achieve once actually in power.
The socialist admitted in his victory speech on Tuesday night that when he ‘enters city hall in 58 days, expectations will be high.’
‘We will meet them,’ he declared.
His promises include freezing rents, making city buses free, raising the minimum wage to $30 an hour, and radically increasing taxes on the rich.
Socialist Zohran Mamdani’s stunning victory is set to radically change New York City policy – and some experts are sounding the alarm.
In fact, people are so startled by his promises that a recent Daily Mail poll predicted that 25 percent, or 2.12 million residents would ‘consider’ fleeing the city in the event of his victory in what would be the largest mass exodus in US history.
His banner policies include:
Tax hikes on the rich and big businesses
Disbanding the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group
Freezing rents
Tripling the city’s stock of publicly subsidized, permanently affordable, union-built, rent-stabilized homes
Free buses
City-owned grocery stores
Free childcare up to age five
$30 minimum wage
Cuomo urges supporters not to boo as he concedes defeat to socialist Zohran Mamdani
Andrew Cuomo urged his supporters not to boo mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani during his solemn concession speech on Tuesday night.
The former New York governor’s supporters began to jeer as Cuomo mentioned Mamdani, leading him to shoot back: ‘That is not right, and that is not us.’
‘Tonight was their night,’ Cuomo continued.
‘And as they start to transition to government, we will all help any way we can because we need our New York City government to work. We want it to work for all New Yorkers because our city is the greatest city in the world.
‘And we will unite for New York City because we love New York City.’
Trump rages over Republicans’ election losses as he issues ominous warning
Donald Trump fumed over Democrats’ clean sweep in elections across the nation on Tuesday night, insisting the reason was that he was not a candidate.
‘TRUMP WASN’T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT, according to Pollsters,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Following socialist Zohran Mamdani’s win, Trump added an ominous warning over his far-left policies.
‘…AND SO IT BEGINS!’ he wrote.
Gavin Newsom’s Prop 50 plan to radically redraw California’s congressional map to hand Democrats extra House seats also passed.
Emotional Sliwa slams ‘billionaires’ for sidelining his campaign
Republican Curtis Sliwa slammed Andrew Cuomo’s wealthy backers for hurting his campaign in the final stretch as he grew emotional in his concession speech.
‘The Masters of the Universe, the billionaires, decided that I should not have the right to represent all of you,’ Sliwa said.
‘To be the voice of the voiceless, the working class people who are the backbone of this city.’
Sliwa alleged that he had been offered $10 million to drop his campaign to help former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s candidacy, but told his supporters: ‘I do not have a price.’
The Republican has been accused of helping socialist Zohran Mamdani’s campaign by siphoning off votes from Cuomo.
But Sliwa took aim at Mamdani in his final speech, warning him not to enact a raft of far-left policies that experts have said could cripple the city’s economy.
‘Let me warn our new leader, if you try to implement socialism, if you try to render our police weak and impotent, if you forsake the people’s public safety, we’re not only organizing, but we are mobilizing,’ he said.
‘We will become the Mayor-elect and his supporters’ worst enemy.’
