Fayette County records 241 cases of COVID-19 in one week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The good and bad news so far this fall concerns the spread of the virus.

“At this time, we have not had any laboratory-confirmed flu cases,” said Kevin Hall with the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

Hall, the department’s Communications Officer, acknowledged that it is incredibly early in the season, so a large number of flu cases would be unusual. Still, he has memories of last year when the county surpassed 3,400 points. However, right now he is more concerned about the rising number of COVID-19 cases. Fayette County had 58 more this week.

“It has gone up again. These are just the lab-confirmed ones, not the home test kits,” she said after sharing that the lab confirmed 241 cases in the last week.

Hall spoke to LEX 18 on the same day the department opened a flu and coronavirus vaccination clinic for uninsured and underinsured people.

“The reason we started with both today is because they are both available, and we wanted people who come to buy one to get the other,” he said.

With a new strain of COVID-19 circulating, this fall’s latest version is your best defense.

“See it as the flu vaccine. “You get a new flu vaccine every year because it protects you against the strains identified as most likely to spread,” Hall said.
