Finnish PM calls on Commission to speed up vaccine distribution

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has urged the European Commission to speed up the distribution of coronavirus vaccines.

In a letter sent to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday, Marin called on the EU executive to do its “utmost” to ensure that pharmaceutical companies produce vaccines “as efficiently as possible” and to speed up the distribution.

Marin also asked the Commission to update EU leaders on the vaccine situation in their meeting next week.

The EU recently announced a deal to reserve up to 300 million more doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine, doubling its order for the jabs. Overall, the bloc has reserved 2 billion doses.
