Firefighters were battling on Sunday night to contain a huge fire that took hold at a Buddhist temple in Springvale South.
At least three dozen fire vehicles and appliances, including some with high ladders, were called to the scene on Springvale Road after the fire broke out at around 8pm.
The fire is yet to be brought under control and FRV have issued a Watch and Act warning for Dingley Village, Keysborough, Noble Park and Springvale South for the large building fire on Springvale Road between Harold Road and McKay Street.
They said residents in those suburbs should close all exterior doors and windows, turn off heating and cooling systems, avoid the area where the fire is and keep roads clear so emergency services can use them.
Springvale Road has been closed at Springvale South.
Smoke from the fire at the two-storey temple has been spotted as far as 15 kilometres away according to social media posts while FRV has warned residents to continue to monitor the fire in case conditions change.
Social media videos show bright flames along the top of the temple.
More to come.
