The National Weather Service has extended a heat advisory for Miami-Dade and Broward counties through Monday.

This means that dangerous heat is expected and it will be important to take the proper precautions to stay safe.

After this advisory expires, a heat advisory will be in effect from 7 pm Sunday to 7 pm Monday for temperatures up to 108 degrees.

The National Weather Service issues a heat advisory when a heat index of 105 degrees or higher is expected for at least two hours.

According to the NWS, high temperatures and high humidity can cause heat-related illness.

People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun if possible.

“Small children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances,” the NWS states on its website. “Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outdoors. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities for the morning or evening.”

Any person overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shady place. If you think someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911.
