He ran as an independent in the 2013 election but was unsuccessful, securing only 4 per cent of the vote.
When he was sentenced in 2014, Victorian County Court judge Carolyn Douglas said Mr Thomson had betrayed his union’s trust with “self-indulgent behaviour”.
“The gravity of the offending is the gross breach of trust involved. The seriousness is reflected in the continuing confidence, or arrogance, for having no regard for the trust placed in him,” she said.
Mr Thomson has recently worked in business, including a cafe, and lives with his wife and children.
