Four Oath Keepers members convicted of involvement on January 6

The decision comes as federal prosecutors present closing arguments against the Proud Boys members accused of seditious conspiracy.

Four members of the far-right group known as the Oath Keepers have been convicted for their role in the Deadly attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as the United States government continues to file criminal charges against the participants.

Sandra Ruth Parker, Laura Steele, Connie Meggs and William Isaacs, associates at Oath Keeper, were found guilty of obstructing an official proceeding and various other felony and misdemeanor charges on Monday. They face penalties of up to 20 years in prison.

The same jury in Washington, DC, acquitted two other defendants, Michael Greene and Bennie Parker, of the more serious felony charges.

US District Judge Amit Mehta told jurors to continue deliberation on the two remaining felony counts against the two men. Both were found guilty of lesser misdemeanors for trespassing on restricted grounds on the Capitol campus, though neither had entered the building itself.

The convictions conclude the third major trial against the Oath Keeper members for the events of January 62021. On that day, supporters of then-US President Donald Trump stormed the US Congressional headquarters in an attempt to disrupt the certification of the 2020 election results, which showed Trump had lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

The founder of the Oath Keepers, stewart rhodeshe had previously been convicted of seditious conspiracy in November, one of the biggest victories for federal prosecutors to date.

The charge of seditious conspiracy is rarely used and is difficult to prove. Rhodes and his co-defendant Kelly Meggs were the first to be successfully convicted of seditious conspiracy in nearly three decades.

On Monday, federal prosecutors also wrapped up their case against Enrique Tarrio and several members of the far-right group Proud Boys. The defendants also face charges of seditious conspiracy for their role in supposedly plotting to stop the transfer of power.

Tarrio, founder of the Proud Boys, could face a 20-year prison sentence if convicted.
