Four soldiers injured in suspected Israeli airstrikes on Syria

Syria reported that several soldiers were injured during Israeli airstrikes early Thursday morning.

Syria’s state media outlet SANA said that Israeli missiles struck areas around the capital Damascus at 12:56 a.m., injuring four soldiers. Syria’s air defenses intercepted “most” but not all of the missiles, and the strikes caused material damages as well, according to SANA.

The Syrian government regularly accuses Israel of airstrikes on its territory, while the Israeli military typically does not comment on its operations abroad. There are regular reports from Syrian government and opposition sources of Israeli strikes on Syrian military and Iran-backed militia targets throughout the country, including the Lebanese group Hezbollah. The latest attack took place in mid March.

The Lebanese army said that Israeli jets flew over Lebanon without permission at 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday night, according to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar news outlet. Syria regularly accuses Israel of entering Syrian airspace via Lebanon.
