Long time foxnews analyst brit hume did not hold back the Monday after donald trumpthe inconsistent performance of an interview with the right-wing network.
“Your answers on matters of law seem bordering on incoherent to me,” he said. bret baierwho spoke with the former president.
Trump, who pleaded not guilty last week to 37 charges Related to the classified documents scandal, he said he did not return the material when summoned because he has been “very busy” and has not had time to go through the boxes to sort out his personal items.
Hume attempted to summarize Trump’s comments to Baier:
“He seemed to be saying that the documents were really his, and that he didn’t return them when he was asked to and when they were subpoenaed because, you know, he wasn’t ready because he didn’t have any. I classified them and separated the classified information or whatever from their golf shirts or whatever he was saying.”
Eventually, Hume all but gave up trying to crack it.
“It was not entirely clear what he was saying, but he seemed to believe that the documents were his, that he had declassified them – evidence to the contrary – and therefore he could do whatever he wanted with them,” he said. “I don’t think he will hold up in court.”
Hume also noted that Baier gave Trump an opportunity to send a message to suburban voters that turned against him in 2020.
“His response was to talk about how he didn’t lose the 2020 election,” Hume noted. “I don’t think it’s a compelling message for the future.”
He said the interview was probably not very well received among those trying to advise the former president.
“I’m sure his legal and political advisers winced all the way through his responses on both points.” He concluded.
