Fox News’ John Roberts apologizes for ‘hurtful’ dig at Chris Christie

foxnews Host John Roberts apologized on air Tuesday for making what he admitted was a “hurtful” comment about former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who thrown out his 2024 Republican presidential campaign earlier that day.

Roberts used a clumsy metaphor about two milkshakes to describe the growing field of Republican candidates looking to take on the favorite. donald trump for the party’s candidacy.

One shake did indeed belong to Trump, due to his strong support from his MAGA base, Roberts said. The other milkshake was filled with the straws of the growing number of Trump’s rivals.

“Now we’re going to have Chris Christie’s straw in there,” Roberts continued.

“Judging by Chris Christie’s physical stature, he could drink a lot of that milkshake if he wanted to,” Roberts added. “But you’re not affecting Donald Trump’s milkshake, you’re just affecting the other part.”

Roberts apologized for the digging later in the show, saying he felt “terrible.”

“I made a comment that was meant to be lighthearted, but I immediately realized that it was hurtful to Gov. Chris Christie,” he said. “I shouldn’t have said what I said. I am deeply sorry and sincerely apologize to the Governor.”

Christie submitted gastric band surgery in 2013. His weight has long been under attack.

Trump himself seemed to prod Christie with comments about “size” following the launch of the former governor’s campaign, and the Trump campaign predicted that Christie “do not waste your time” eating the lunch of his Republican rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
