former representative Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) received an embarrassing reminder from a fellow contributor at foxnews‘ Show “Outnumbered” Monday.
Chaffetz, who became a conservative network pundit after leaving Congress in 2017, joined the panel. criticism of a Politico article about the possible effect Casey DeSantis, the wife of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), may have on DeSantis’ potential 2024 presidential campaign, which he is expected to launch imminently.
Chaffetz said families of politicians should be off limits, saying only conservatives face such attacks.
“Do they ever do this to the democrats?” she asked, before answering his own question: “Oh, no, no, no, no.”
Contributor Marie Harf disagreed.
The student of the Obama administration recalled the conservative attacks against the then first lady Michelle Obama.
“Yes, they did,” said Harf, the former chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
“They don’t,” Chaffetz replied.
“Michelle Obama?” Harf replied. “You? Sorry, have we all slept through eight years of Obama in which the conservative media said the most horrible, racist and sexist things about Michelle Obama?
“I don’t think any of this should be said,” he continued. “I think that women in politics, especially wives, are held to a standard that is sexist. It is unfair. It’s not fair game on either side.”
“Obama was subjected to horrible things on her,” Harf added.
