Foxconn to start mass-producing Apple AirPods in India – Times of India

The AirPods may finally get the ‘made in India’ branding, according to reports. After almost a year of speculation,

It is said to be all set to start producing AirPods at its Hyderabad facility. According to a PTI report, the Taiwan-based contract electronics manufacturer has approved a $400 million investment for the Hyderabad plant. The factory is likely to start mass-producing Apple Airpods by December 2024.

After the iPhones, this will be the second product from the Cupertino giant to be mass-produced in India. The report claims that AirPods made in India will be sold worldwide. Apart from Apple, Xiaomi also recently started manufacturing its TWS earphones in India in the

Optimus Electronics

plant in Noida.

In December 2022, Apple AirPods led the global TWS market with around 36%, reports research firm Canalys. The Cupertino-based tech giant was followed by Samsung with 7.5%, Xiaomi with 4.4%, Boat with 4% and Oppo with 3%.

Apple also started manufacturing its iPhone 15 models in India. The next series of smartphones is expected to launch next month. Apple’s effort to produce the iPhone 15 at Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu plant will further narrow the company’s gap between its operations in India and its main manufacturing facility in China.

it is preparing to deliver the newest devices a few weeks after they start shipping from factories in China. Apple is reportedly planning to rapidly increase the volume of new iPhones coming from India.

The iPhone 15 models are expected to arrive with major updates to the camera system. Meanwhile, the Pro models are likely to be powered by an improved 3nm A16 Bionic chipset.

In April, Apple opened its first retail stores in India. The company now sees the fast-growing Indian market as a retail opportunity. Apple also sees the country as a major production base for its devices in the long run. In June, iPhone sales in India hit a new high as shipments grew by double digits. However, Apple has not revealed the exact numbers.
