After significant damage to their network of workers on the ground, terrorists are increasingly carrying out attacks against security forces in forests than in cities, the sources told News18.

Terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir appear to have changed their strategy to resemble that of the Naxals, carrying out more attacks in forests than cities, sources told News18 on Friday.

The sources said that after significant damage to their network of workers on the ground, the terrorists are now staying in the jungle and retreating after carrying out attacks. They understand that the movement of security forces through the forest area is difficult and delicate.

Security forces detained the workers of the terror teams on the ground on Friday, hoping that their interrogation would lead to the perpetrators of such attacks.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive search operation in the dense forests of the Bata-Doriya area after a terror attack in Poonch killed five Indian army members and wounded one.

The entire area has been cordoned off while drones and sniffer dogs are used to detect terrorists who might be hiding in the area, they said.

Authorities said a high alert has been issued in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch amid a close vigil along the Line of Control. Traffic on the Bhimber Gali-Poonch road was stopped after the incident and people were advised to go to Poonch via Mendhar, authorities said.

Five members of the Army were killed and another seriously injured on Thursday after their vehicle caught fire following a terrorist attack in Poonch. The soldiers belonged to a Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for anti-terror operations.

The Army said the vehicle in which the soldiers were traveling was attacked by unidentified terrorists and caught fire due to the probable use of grenades.
